Veteran Musician Retires
After 21 years with the locally popular band “The Elderly Brothers”, Ambleside keyboard player Martin Tomlinson is to retire with one last gig at Zeffirelli’s on Wednesday 29th July. Martin began his piano playing on the London R&B scene in the 1960’s.
Martin, 81, has been suffering from increasing deafness which makes it hard for him to tell if he’s playing in tune, even though his bandmates assure him that he is! His bandmates are hoping he can be persuaded to revive his “hit” song, “Ambleside Online”.
After Martin's last gig, Tony Rothwell (bass guitar & vocals), Nigel Hutchinson (rhythm guitar & vocals), Tony Farren (harmonica, lead guitar and vocals) and drummer Will Sutherland will continue for the time being as a quartet, feeling that Martin is probably irreplaceable, but they will keep open minds about adding a fifth member at some point.
