Settle-MacDonald Quintet; A Tribute to Dexter Gordon

Band Bio

Saxophonist Stuart MacDonald and vibes player John Settle present an evening dedicated to the music and legacy of the great tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon.

One of the most influential and popular jazz musicians of the 20th century, Dexter Gordon was among the first players to translate the complex bebop language of the 1940s to the tenor saxophone. Known for a distinctive sound, feel and lyrical solo style, Gordon was a major influence on fellow tenor players John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Jimmy Heath and many more.

Tonight, the material will feature Gordon's original compositions ('Cheesecake',' I Want More', 'Montmartre', 'For Regulars Only', to name but a few) and standards that he made his own. With a quintet consisting of some of the North's most accomplished and prolific jazz musicians, this promises to be an evening of great music, paying tribute to an icon of jazz.
