Groove Crusade

A one-off tribute to the work of the Crusaders, the great and enduring jazz-funk-soul masters. Formed in Texas in the 1960s, the band gradually gained a loyal following , finally breaking through to a worldwide audience in the 1980s in its capacity as the backing band on such classic songs as Bill Withers’ ‘Soul Shadows’ and, most notably, Randy Crawford’s ’Street Life’ , going on to collaborate with the likes of BB King & Eric Clapton into the 21st century

Very much a labour of love from the six great players involved tonight from across the North of England, combining to give their interpretation of the Crusaders’ classic instrumental repertoire, instantly recognisable from its signature tenor saxophone-trombone front line and rich Fender Rhodes piano sound.
