Originally from Manchester and now based in London, Sam Rapley is one of the UK’s most highly regarded up-and- coming reed players and composers. His own band Fabled features some of London’s finest young talent playing his original compositions, and tonight he presents the band’s repertoire in ‘chamber’ trio form – saxophone/clarinet, guitar and piano. Taking inspiration from Debussy, Jobim, Sarah Vaughan and Bon Iver, the music of Fabled explores a wealth of textures, harmonies and grooves. Heavily influenced by music for film and the relationship between music and storytelling, the band is always searching for its own new ways to tell the classic, age-old stories. What better place than a jazz bar in a cinema to hear the talented Mr Rapley’s tales?
