Groove Crusade

Free Event

A heartfelt tribute to the work of the Crusaders, the great and enduring jazz-funk-soul masters, Groove Crusade is back by popular request after the band brought the house down on its first visit.

Formed in Texas in the 1960s as the Jazz Crusaders, the original group gradually gained a loyal following, breaking through to a worldwide audience in the early 1980s in its capacity as the backing band on such classic songs as Bill Withers’ ‘Soul Shadows’ and, most notably, Randy Crawford’s ’Street Life’ , and going on to collaborate with the likes of BB King & Eric Clapton into the 21st century.

Very much a labour of love from the six players involved from across the North of England, who have painstakingly transcribed, arranged and adapted far more material than can be squeezed into tonight's show, they combine to give their interpretation of the Crusaders’ classic repertoire, instantly recognisable from its signature tenor saxophone-trombone front line, rich Fender Rhodes piano sound and distinctive grooves.
