About Time

About Time

‘About Time’ started just two years ago with a gig in The Brewery Art’s Centre’s, Warehouse Cafe in aid of The Down Syndrome Association. Following this success the band members wanted to continue performing together.

You can expect to hear lounge music with jazzy edge incl. songs from Burt Bacharach, Bob Dylan, Carole King and others.

The Band consists of experienced local musicians although the vocalist Aggie originates from Poland. Keith Redfern – who has been playing guitar for years in a variety of bands from punk to funk and now fuses it all into his own style..., Ken Johnston – Welsh born Anglo-Scot, first encountered a double bass 50 years ago after playing alto sax and guitar!  On the Lancaster scene since arriving in ’92.  Martin Chadderton, our drummer is never happier than when he is quickening the pulse with his infectious beats. His genres include Brass, Community and Flamenco!

The Riff Bishops

Lancaster-based bandleader and multi-instrumentalist Jave formed the dynamic and innovative The Riff Bishops in order to explore his love for improvisational "in-the-moment" music whilst not being confined to any one style or genre. Expect an eclectic blend of instrumental original and covered Funk, Rock, Blues, African and Island, delivered with a healthy dose of imaginative improvisation. TRB are no strangers to anything from Latin to Reggae, Afro-Cuban to Acid Jazz.

Tom Vernon Quartet

Nov

Often here as a sideman, tasteful Blackpool guitarist Tom Vernon returns as a leader with a fine band featuring some of the North-West’s leading jazz players. His mellow tones will be complemented by the incredible voice of Louise Spiteri, Gary Culshaw's virtuoso bass skills and the rhythmic grooves of Tony Harrison. Together they will be exploring a number of well-known standards.

The Washboard Resonators

Nov
24

This duo of guitar, banjo and washboard play footstomping blues, ragtime, swing and folk like it was on the street corners of America in the 1920s, 30s & 40s. The band has played many gigs, including Huddersfield Food & Drink Festival, C FAB Folk Festival in Lincolnshire and may pubs and bars. This duo is perfect for situations where something acoustic, but energetic and lively is required.

Oxley-Meier Guitar Duo

Nov
25

Two of the finest guitarists  - in any genre – that you’re likely to hear. Brit Pete Oxley & Swiss Nic Meier bring two lifetimes’ experience as creative musicians to the bandstand. Oxley has been a mainstay on the British scene over the past two decades; an alumnus of Boston’s famed  Berklee College of Music,  Meier recently released a trio album with jazz greats Vinnie Colaiuta & Jimmy Haslip, and continues to tour the world as a member of Jeff Beck’s group. Yes, we know Beck’s a legendary guitarist – that’s a measure of the regard in which Meier is held by his peers.

For their live gigs, they duo aims to entertain by playing with a spontaneity and an intuitive interplay that keeps them fresh and fired up. Expect a dazzling display of contemporary fare, ranging from Turkish rhythms to soundscapes from Latin America to English pastoralism. Hear this played on nylon string, steel string, electric, 12 string, fretless, slide, guitar-synth, glissentar guitars and more!

‘A fascinating fusion opulent with evocative splendour’:  Mojo

‘CD of the week’: The London Evening Standard

‘Top ten CDs of the year’: The Telegraph

‘’This album captures the lightning in a bottle effect created by the union of two perfectly matched artists and is already the front runner for my album of the year.’:  Jazz Views
