Black Pony

Black Pony

Indie-folk duo Black Pony are singer/guitarist Daniel Ray and Sarah Edmondson on violin, e-piano and organ. Together they combine elements of folk, country, and soul to create songs at once intimate and anthemic, rhythmic and melodic. Little aural movies.

Irish-Australian Daniel traveled a lot of miles to find such a simpatico musical partner in formally trained Sarah and her vivid sonic palette. A bit of lightning strikes every time they take the stage. Come along for the ride.

Mike Smith Group

Never having failed to bring the house down on previous visits, tonight sees an overdue return for powerful & witty Liverpool saxophonist Mike Smith, best known as the leader of the barnstorming Ginger Tunes Quartet, possibly the staff's favourite band. Mike's new group promises a similar mix of superb musicianship and infectious grooves. Hang on to your seats!

The Retrosettes

The Retrosettes

After getting back from their European tour promoting the release of their first album in Germany, The Retrosettes will appear at Zeffirellis as a stripped back duo.  Lead singers Helen and Paul Bytheway (also a married couple) are the driving force behind the vintage themed band, and they will appear playing piano and guitar with 2 lead vocals.

The couple will take you through their influences from 50s rock n roll, to 60s pop, right through soul, country and disco.  Their acoustic versions of popular songs from the last 60 years show off some of the best songwriters of all time from Bowie, to Bob Dylan, the Animal, The Beatles and everything in between.

The Magic Beans

Oct

A long- overdue visit from this delightful band, specializing in clever jazz-inflected takes on unlikely source material.

The Magic Beans trade in transformation; that is, they distill the essence of choice pop songs with just a supple string bass, lyrical acoustic guitar and the voice of Zoe Kyoti, magical in its smoothness, nuance and tenderness.

Hunter Muskett

Hunter Muskett

After having released excellent albums in 1971 and 1973 the band disappeared. Great multi-part harmonies, fluid electric guitar and strong songs with a rustic vibe and twist of West Coast rock (a bit like Decameron). Their second album, was produced by Keith Relf of the Yardbirds/Rennaisance. And Michael Giles (ex. King Crimson) appears as guest drummer.

One of the better British folk rock rarities of the classic ‘70’s folk rock era.
