Author and illustrator Mark Richards, the man who created the eight-volume ‘Fellranger’ series of Lake District guidebooks to the fells, has just had two new walking books published – the two-volume Hadrian’s High Way and Great Lakes Connection – both with routes that both pass through Ambleside.

The linear journeys have been created to provide new walking holiday perspectives on the area. The 50-mile long Great Lakes Connection is a railway station to station walk from Grange-over-Sands to Penrith, linking Windermere with Ullswater, and therefore has two optional lake-long cruises.

The 100-mile long Hadrian’s High Way follows Roman roads east from Ravenglass, via Ambleside to Brougham, crossing the Pennine watershed to Alston and so to and along the Roman wall concluding at Vindolanda near Hexham in the Tyne Valley.

During Mark’s talk you will be able to find out about these glorious routes and the work that went into creating new guidebooks from scratch.
